		<description>Hi Blaise,

I don&#039;t have a great deal of experience.

You will need to programmer to get started, you can use it to upload a bootloader. I haven&#039;t used a bootloader before.

I think it&#039;s quite difficult to build a programmer. I use a pickit 2 programmer, they&#039;re cheap and they seem to work well. I use MPLAB to compile my code, you can write in C and the sample code from Microchip will work without modifications and there is a free version.</description>

<description>Hi, I am trying to learn how to use pic microcontrollers. I have three 18F2550&#039;s and I am not totally sure what I need to start using them.

I have an AVR programmer. I am hoping to get started with out spending too much.

I guess my question is, What do I need to get a bootloader onto the 18f2550? What do I need to up load programs?

I am hoping I will only need to assemble a breadboard programing board.

Finally, what IDE will allow me to write in either basic or C?

You could probably tell I am more used to the arduino.

You have a great site -- all the best!
